Circle – Some interesting perspectives

Last week, we had the theme – CIRCLE – on our Facebook group Darter Photographers. Along with the winning entry, many interesting compositions were added to the group.

Circles are all around us – wheels, coins, watches, water bottles, pot-holes, water droplets, lenses – the list is virtually endless. To capture circles on the camera, different compositions and stories can be conveyed.

Nature shows the way, with this beautiful composition from Suchi Govindarajan. The viewer’s eye is trapped in the circle of life here, which is what composition is all about in the first place.

It all starts with a circle–new leaves unfurl themselves from a fern. – Photographed by Suchi Govindarajan

Another subject on black background, this time by Shivali Agarwal. The various circles in the image are well placed off-center. The tiny insect adds relief, and a certain sense of drama, to the image.

This image by Soumayajit Hazra is pure music, combining lines with circles to add a unique flavour. Taking colour off the photograph makes one focus on the forms and shapes here.

A very different perspective to circles, again by Suchi Govindarajan. The amazing architecture at the Hoysala temples has some very circular pillars.

The finely-turned pillars of the Halebid temple. I was struck by how modern the circular, lathe-turned design was, in contrast to more traditional sculpture. This is my attempt to capture the intricacy of a seemingly simple idea. – Photographed by Suchi Govindarajan

A colourful representation of circle by Sandeep Sreenivasa. The top-angle ensures that both the colors and shapes are prominent in this photograph.

In nature photography, circular forms are abundant like this Touch-me-not (Mimosa pudica) flower.

Sometimes, circular formations happen by chance when you are looking through your viewfinder.
