Photo of the Day – Hampi

Here is a photograph taken by Suresh UT, who travelled with Darter on a photography tour to Hampi.

It takes some imagination and going beyond a regular thought process to be able to create Silhouettes. And a picture like the one below requires quick thinking and fast reaction, to be able to capture the moving monkeys in that perfect place.

Photographers tend to think in terms of good light, which is typically falling from behind the camera or from a side. Making silhouettes requires thinking much more than seeking that usual angle of light. At the same time, not every picture can make such magnificent silhouettes as this photograph. The prime rule to keep in mind when deciding to make a silhouette is – a silhouette highlights the shapes and hides the textures. Look for frames that have interesting contours and ignore the textures.

The technicalities of making a silhouette is relatively simple once you set your eyes on that right composition. Make sure that the light source (sun, in this case) is behind the subject. Meter the sky instead of the subject (while keeping the focus on the subject) and click.

Our next photography tour to Hampi is happening from January 26th to 28th. See more details and registration details on the photography tour to Hampi.
