Udaipur is often listed among the most romantic cities in the world. Perhaps it deserves the title. But what is odd is, the tag is usually associated with Taj Lake Palace, springing up in the middle of the lake. The lake palace is indeed an icon of Udaipur, but being inaccessible to most people who visit the city, it is better fit as an icon of aspiration than an icon of romance. It is Lake Pichola itself, set against an undulated landscape of green hills, that really makes Udaipur what it is. The sun setting over the Aravali Ranges leaves a lasting impression on any visitor and a yearning to be here forever.
I spent three days gallivanting along the lake shore in Udaipur. This picture was made on the very first evening after our arrival. For the next two days, I left my camera in the hotel room and decided to dwell in the joys of gazing at the lake.
