A Montagu’s Harrier flies gracefully over the Little Rann of Kutch on a December morning looking for a snack. Harriers are winter migrants to India, traveling from their breeding grounds in Eurasia. Their primary habitat is open areas, such as grasslands. They feed on a variety of prey, from insects to small reptiles and rodents.

For flight shots, it is essential to get good shutter speed and track focus accurately. To freeze the motion of the harrier, this image was photographed at ISO 400 to achieve a shutter speed of 1/1600s. Auto-focus with AI-Servo (or AF-C in Nikon) helps in continuously focusing on the harrier as it flies.
