  Welcome to the world of photography! We know that it can be very daunting when you are just starting off. Why are there so many camera models? What does all this complicated jargon mean? Why are my photographs not looking as good as I hoped?

  10 years ago, we decided to simplify your first steps into photography. Thus was born Darter’s Photography Workshop for Beginners. Now in an online format, this 2-day workshop is designed to help you know your camera intimately. Learn the terminology and technology, and how it impacts your photograph. Understand composition guidelines and the effective use of light to convey your story better. Internalize these concepts with simple exercises in the safety of your homes, under the guidance of your photography mentor. And show off your achievement at the end of the workshop with a cool certificate from Darter Photography!

  Photography is a lifelong journey. This workshop will arm you with the skills to start this journey confidently. Your photographs will be appreciated. And you’ll be part of a group of enthusiastic photographers with whom you can discuss photography, exchange ideas and travel around the world.

This workshop is a great opportunity to get started off on photography in a guided manner. No prior photography experience is needed to join this workshop.

This workshop is for you if you tick at least one of the following boxes:

  • You have a camera with you (or buying one soon) but you don’t have a complete understanding of the many controls and terminologies.

  • You’re keen to take better photographs and improve your photography skills.

You will be required to bring your digital camera to the workshop. An advanced camera or an SLR is NOT a prerequisite, though having one helps get better practical insights. Take a look at our course content to understand what you learn during the sessions.

Schedule and Topics Covered

The workshop is conducted as a carefully-designed mix of theory sessions, along with practice sessions that you can do in the safety of your home. At the end of the Day 1, you’ll receive a Photography Handbook (in PDF format) that summarizes the workshop learning and serves as a reference guide through your photography journey.

Day 1 – 10:00AM to 5:00PM (with adequate breaks)

• • Understanding your camera
    
    • Understanding digital cameras and associated photography gear
    • Familiarization with the controls in your camera
    • Camera modes and making the best out of your camera – Program Mode, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes
  • Technical Concepts of photography
    • Focus and Focal Length
    • Understanding exposure, histograms and metering
    • Aperture, Depth of Field, Shutter-speed, ISO and White Balance
    • Knowing what makes a technically good photograph; identifying problems in images
  
  Day 2 – 10:00AM to 5:00PM (with adequate breaks)
  
  • Composition
    • Stories through your photographs
    • Guidelines for good composition
    • Understanding quality and play of light
  • Types of photography and their nuances
    • Portrait, Landscape, Wildlife, Architecture and Macro photography at a glance
  • Post-processing images on the computer

  Cancellation Policy:
  – If cancelled (by email notification) at least 3 days before the workshop, workshop fee can be utilized for subsequent workshops or any other Darter Photography events within 6 months of the date of this workshop. No cash refund option available.
  – If cancelled (by email notification) within 3 days to 1 day before start of the workshop, 50% of workshop fee can be used for subsequent Darter Photography events. No cash refund option available.
