Tour Overview

Embarking on a journey to Antarctica is more than a vacation—it is an expedition to another world. For centuries, the White Continent remained a frozen secret guarded by the formidable Southern Ocean. Today, this land of extremes remains the coldest, driest, and highest continent on Earth, offering a landscape of raw, untouched majesty that has captivated explorers for generations.

Antarctica holds over 90% of the world’s ice, creating a surreal environment of towering icy mountains, massive glaciers, and monumental icebergs that dwarf even the largest vessels. During the brief Antarctic summer (November to March), the continent undergoes a breathtaking transformation:

  • The Midnight Sun: Experience near-constant daylight as the darkness of winter vanishes.

  • Wildlife Spectacles: Witness bustling penguin rookeries during nesting season.

  • Apex Predators: Spot Leopard Seals patrolling the icy shores.

  • Whale Watching: Marvel at majestic whales returning to nutrient-rich polar waters.

Darter Photography, in collaboration with Swan Hellenic, invites you to join our 2026 flagship expedition. This December, we are setting sail on the SH Vega — a state-of-the-art, luxurious expedition ship designed specifically for polar exploration. This is your opportunity to capture the “End of the World” through your lens. With expert photography guidance and world-class amenities, we ensure you don’t just see Antarctica — you capture its soul.

Limited Slots Available: Don’t miss your chance to photograph one of the final frontiers of Earth.

Tour Itinerary
  • Day 1: Arrival in Buenos Aires

Arrive in Buenos Aires. From the airport, you'll be transferred to the pre-expedition hotel. Take in the sights of Buenos Aires and enjoy a relaxed day. In the evening, we'll gather for a round of introductions and expedition debrief. Overnight in Buenos Aires.

  • Day 2: Adventure Begins. Ushuaia and setting sail

After breakfast in Buenos Aires, we head to the airport to take a chartered flight to Ushuaia. As we land in Ushuaia, nothing prepares you for the extraordinary views of the southern Patagonian mountains and the Beagle Channel.

Nestled in the foothills of the snow-capped Martial Range, Ushuaia’s colourful streets and mismatched buildings cascade from the imposing mountains before coming to an abrupt halt at the shores of the Beagle Channel. As one of the world’s southernmost cities, Ushuaia carries its ‘end of the world’ reputation well. The moody weather and dramatic surroundings certainly help. Board your boutique ship - SH Vega - before departing for your journey through one of the most captivating wilderness regions of the world.

  • Days 3 and 4 - Days at sea

Sea days are rarely dull. Take the time to sit back and let the world go by. The ship’s observation decks provide stunning views of the passing ocean. Mingle with other passengers and share your experiences of this incredible trip or head to our library which is stocked full of reference books.

Albatrosses and whales keep turning up close to the ship, adding to the excitement. Get an expert’s view in one of the on-board lectures. Our photography mentor will guide you through photography in Antarctica.

  • Days 5 to 8 - Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

Among captivating glaciers, majestic icebergs and snowy islands, the Antarctic Peninsula is where most visitors to the White Continent live their Antarctica dream. It's the most accessible part, with scientific bases and incredible scenery. Penguins, seals, whales, skuas, gulls - plenty of wildlife all around keeps your engaged through these 4 days.

It is now time to don your jackets and put on the rubber boots. We'll head out on shore expeditions twice a day, weather and sea conditions permitting, to explore various parts of Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland islands. On short treks and zodiac cruises, we'll experience Antarctica up-close, watch wildlife go about their lives in this extreme environment and photograph the majesty of this great wilderness.

  • Days 9 and 10 - Days at sea

It is time to set sail back to civilisation. As we navigate the Drake Passage back to Ushuaia, take in the open ocean through the observation decks. Review the photographs and memories from the past week. Learn more about what you've seen in the on-board lectures.

  • Day 11: Ushuaia and onward to Buenos Aires

After breakfast, we disembark at  Ushuaia, saying goodbye to our home for the past 10 days. We take a chartered flight to Buenos Aires, our minds filled with memories and memory cards brimming with photographs from the White Continent.
