Lofoten Islands - Where winter sleeps under dancing Northern Lights.
Tour Overview

One of the most magical things about winter in Lofoten Islands is how the sun hovers low on the horizon throughout the day, casting a soft, golden glow ideal for photography, without worry of the harsh light of midday.

There’s something unforgettable to experience of wandering through timeworn fishing villages and staying in the iconic rorbuer traditional fishermen’s cabins while exploring some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches. Towering, jagged peaks plunge dramatically into deep fjords, creating a surreal and ever-changing landscape.

Above it all, the Northern Lights often dance across the Arctic sky, and the sound of crashing waves echoes around you. And do not forget to keep your camera handy, and you’ll find yourself reaching for it constantly, eager to capture every frame of these awe-inspiring Nordic moments.

And the best part – with the solar activity reaching its peak in 2024-25-26, the Northern Lights are expected to be at their brightest in 20 years!

Tour Detailed Itinerary
  • Day 01. Arrive in Leknes

Arrive in Leknes; from there you will transferred to your stay in Leknes where you can rest and recover from your trip. Later in the day, the group will meet up for introductions, tour briefing and photography-related sessions.

At nightfall, and if the weather conditions are favorable, we will head to Uttakleiv beach, one of the most photogenic places in Lofoten to capture the Northern Lights. Its rocks, waves and mountains offer endless possibilities of composition.

  • Day 02. Leknes and Around

A day full of contrasts awaits us today. At dawn, we will visit Vareid beach, with its panoramic views of the rugged Lofoten coastline. An ideal place for long exposure photography, with the waves crashing against the rocks and the fjords as a backdrop.

We will continue our tour through scenic Flakstadpollen, making photo stops at breathtaking locations. We will arrive at the stunning Skagsanden beach, with its imposing mountains in the background and incredible reflections in the sand. At sunset, we will move on to Vik and Haukland to photograph the last arctic lights of the day. If conditions are favourable, after dinner, we will choose a spot close to the lodge to capture the Northern Lights.

  • Day 03. Leknes and Around.

Today, we move to Reine, where we will stay in an authentic “Rorbuer” a traditional Norwegian cabin with a privileged view of the Reinefjorden. Imagine waking up with this landscape in front of your eyes!

Prepare to fall in love with Reine, a dream village that looks like something out of a fairy tale. We will stay in a cosy “Rorbu”, a traditional fisherman’s hut, overlooking the majestic Reine Forden. Imagine opening the windows and breathing in the pure Arctic air as the snow-capped peaks reflect in the crystal-clear waters of the
    fjord.

Our “rorbu” will be the perfect starting point to explore the most picturesque corners of Reine. A few steps away, we will find the iconic Hamnøy Bridge, which will give us postcard panoramic views.

At sunset, magic takes over Reine. The lights of the houses are reflected in the water, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. And if we are lucky, the sky will be filled with aurora borealis, bathing the fjord with its hypnotic colours.

  • Day 04. Leknes and Around.

We will wake up early to capture one of the most spectacular sunrises in Lofoten from the Reine Bridge.

After breakfast, we will head to various locations to continue photographing this paradise that is the Lofoten Islands. Afterwards, we will return to our accommodation to have lunch, rest, and review our photographs. If the night is clear, we will look for the northern lights in Reine or Skagsanden.

  • Day 05. Reine and Around.

Today we will travel to Sund, a small town with a unique charm. If the sky is clear, the first rays of the sun will bathe the mountains and snow with a golden hue, creating an unreal atmosphere. A perfect moment to capture the essence of Lofoten in all its splendour.

Our next stop will be Nusfjord, a place where time seems to stand still. We will travel along roads that wind through dreamlike landscapes, with frozen lakes that reflect the surrounding beauty. Afterwards, we return to our lodging to have lunch, rest, and review the pictures taken.

And when night falls, if the sky is clear, we will return to hunt for the Northern lights.

  • Day 06. Reine and Around.

We will wake up with the soft light of dawn caressing Reine. From a viewpoint near our cosy “Rorbu”, we will contemplate how the sun paints the sky with golden and pink tones, reflecting in the calm waters of the fjord.

After a delicious breakfast, we will take advantage of the day to rediscover Lofoten. Perhaps we will return to that place that the fog hid from us, or to that beach that stole our hearts. Or maybe we will be surprised by a new corner that reveals another facet of these enigmatic islands.

At sunset, we will gather in Reine or Hamnøy to say goodbye to the sun with a last photo session. And if the night gives us one last dance of the aurora borealis, we will look for that special place where we have not yet had the opportunity to capture its magic.

  • Day 07. Drive Back to Leknes.

Today, we say goodbye to Reine, but not before enjoying one last morning in this paradise. We will wake up calmly, savouring a breakfast overlooking the fjord, while remembering the adventures lived in these days. Afterwards, we will head towards Leknes. The road will give us new perspectives of Lofoten: fishing villages with their colourful houses, white sandy beaches bathed by turquoise waters, and towering mountains that rise into the sky. We will make several stops to capture these last moments of beauty, letting the magic of the islands accompany us to the end.

Upon arrival in Leknes, we will settle into a cosy hotel, where we can rest and recharge our batteries with a well-deserved lunch.

  • Day 08. Farewell to Lofoten.

Every journey comes to an end, and this too. It’s time to bid farewell to the beautiful Lofoten, Norway. Transfer to Leknes airport (LKN) to fly out with tons of memories.
