Tour Overview

Masai Mara is arguably one of the world’s most renowned wildlife destinations – a dream for most ardent wildlife photographers. Seemingly never-ending grasslands offer an unhindered view of the wilderness all around. The remarkable diversity of mammals and birds makes you fill up your memory cards within no time!

Nestled in a corner of the vast Serengeti plains of eastern Africa, Masai Mara has an unparalleled density of Africa’s big mammals. This is the land of wildlife superheroes – the world’s largest mammal, the tallest one, the fastest one, to give a few examples. Many prides of lions lord over these grasslands, with their smaller cousin – the leopard – keeping its distance by its ability to scale trees. An incredible diversity of antelopes – from the diminutive Dikdiks to the massive Elands – in addition to zebras and other herbivores helps these predators thrive here. Sunrises and sunsets drape the grasslands in golden light, bringing alive your photographs of the wildlife and the landscape that they are a part of.

On our way to Masai Mara, we visit Lake Nakuru National Park for a day. A huge conservation success story, this park is a great place to watch and photograph both White and Black Rhinoceros. We also spend a couple of hours on a boating session at Lake Naivasha to photograph birds, including the iconic African Fish Eagles.

We invite you to an action-packed week this September on our wildlife photography tour to Masai Mara. Learn the secrets of wildlife photography. Experience wildlife photography like never before!

Tour Itinerary in Detail
  • Day 01. Drive from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru, via Lake Naivasha

We’ll receive you at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your hotel in Nairobi early in the morning and set off by road towards the Rift Valley. Our first stop - Lake Naivasha. We get into boats and explore the rich birdlife around the lake, including pelicans, herons, kingfishers and fish eagles. Hippos are a common sight around the lake and we might get to make some low angle photographs of these amphibious giants.

After our boat ride, we drive to Lake Nakuru. After checking into our lodgings and a quick lunch, we head out for an evening safari. Lake Nakuru is renowned for its success story of conserving both White and Black rhinos. This park is also home to the rare Rothschild's Giraffe, many prides of lions and plenty of birds. After sunset, we return to our lodgings for an orientation to the tour and our first photography review session. After dinner, we retire for the day.

  • Day 02: Safari in Lake Nakuru. Travel to Masai Mara

We wake up at sunrise and head out into Lake Nakuru National Park for another safari. The morning light brings a different perspective to our photography. Birds are also more active at this time and we'll spend some time exploring the rich bird life here. After breakfast, we set off on a drive to Masai Mara.

We reach Masai Mara late afternoon, and drive through the savannah to get to our camp.  We’ll have an interactive introduction session to Masai Mara before dinner. We retire for the day after dinner.

  • Day 03 to Day 06. Safaris at Masai Mara

Get ready to plunge into high-octane wildlife photography at Masai Mara! Starting around sunrise, we’ll pack breakfast to ensure that we make the best of morning light and will only return to the camp for lunch. These are long days of wildlife safaris and photography as we explore different areas of the Mara.

We again set off after lunch for another safari till sunset. The wonderful biodiversity of the Mara should give you ample photography opportunities through these 4 days.

  • Day 07. Drive from Masai Mara to Nairobi. Tour Ends.

After a short morning safari, we head out from Masai Mara after breakfast, with our memory cards teeming with photographs. We’ll stop for lunch on the way before making our way to Nairobi Airport.
