Tour Overview

Tal Chapar (or Tal Chhapar) Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best-kept secrets among wildlife photographers in India. Amidst the gently swaying grasses, hundreds of Blackbucks (Antilope cervicapra) gambol all over the grassland. With over 2500 of these graceful antelopes, this grassland is one of their last remaining strongholds. But look closer. In the shadows, a Desert Fox prowls, and a massive Bengal Monitor stalks through the grasses.

Grassland birds, both resident and migrating, abound in Tal Chapar. Rare birds are a relatively common sight here, putting this place on the global birdwatching map. Watch a Laggar Falcon tear through the air at breakneck speeds, or witness the dramatic mid-air duel between a Booted Eagle and a Long-legged Buzzard. From the graceful beauty of Demoiselle Cranes to the whimsical “puff-and-roll” of the White-browed Bushchat, every frame is a masterpiece waiting to happen.

Tal Chapar endears itself to the wildlife photographer and nature lover in an instant. Explore the amazing biodiversity, photograph rare species of birds and mammals and unlock the secrets of wildlife photography. With 19 years of dust on our boots and passion in our lenses, Darter Photography takes you deeper into this grassland paradise than anyone else.

Tour Itinerary
  • Day 1:

Reach Tal Chapar for lunch. After a round of introductions, your photography mentor will give a brief introduction to the park and the guidelines to be observed. It is time for our first safari into the grasslands! The sight of Blackbucks roaming all over the place is an enamouring experience. As we drive through the grassland, we'll stop to photograph these antelopes along with birds and other wildlife that we come across. After a wonderful sunset, we return to the guest house. Around dinner, your photography mentor will conduct a detailed session on Photography in the Grasslands. He’ll also review photographs that you’ve clicked in the evening session and give you inputs.

  • Day 02 and 03:

We start the days early (around sunrise) to get the best of morning activity and golden light. We’ll explore different habitats in and around Tal Chapar – grasslands, rocky scrub, salt pans and wooded areas – to see and photograph the rich biodiversity here. Each area is a very different experience and harbours very interesting wildlife.
In the evenings, your photography mentor will review your photographs. And there will be engaging discussions about Tal Chapar, photography, wildlife and conservation.

  • Day 04:

We’ll head out into the sanctuary for one last safari this morning. We’ll spend time trying to photograph species that we’ve missed over the past 3 days or exploring a part of the sanctuary that we wouldn’t have visited earlier. After breakfast, we start our journey back home with memories of amazing experiences and our memory cards full of great images.
